Focus on Your Mornings
The morning is the new year of each day—the time when you feel like anything could happen if you put your mind to it. Though many of us have groggy and slow mornings, setting a routine at the start of your day can make a big difference. If your goal is to exercise more, consider going for a morning walk or set aside time to hit the gym before work. By knocking out your goals in the morning, you leave the rest of the day to complete what you need. This scheduling also deters from the all-too-familiar procrastination: “I’ll do it later.”
Make Your Goals SMART
In many public schools today, students learn about the SMART criteria: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Yet SMART goals work outside of the classroom as well! SMART goals may sound like a lot of work, but the truth is that each of these criteria makes a large difference in your ability to carry out your goals. Take the time to write out your specific goals—workout related and otherwise—and how you plan to accomplish them. Be sure to include achievable and measurable tasks relevant to your overall goal. Set a time limit or schedule for these tasks so you pencil them into your calendar. Once you have your SMART goals lined up, publicize them and let your family, friends, or co-workers know about them.
Find Inspiration Each Day
Surround yourself with positive people who will encourage you to complete your goal of staying active.
